Now Streaming: Our Favorite Movies That Inspire Travel

Now is the time to get cozy in your pajamas, pop some popcorn, and binge-watch some travel movies. We're using this time to get inspired for our future travels, and what better way than to watch some of our favorite films?

Comedy

Passport to Paris

A true Olson classic, this movie will definitely bring you back to your childhood. Sure this isn't a cinematic masterpiece, but it is entertaining. And who doesn't want to runaway to Paris?

Where it will take you: Paris, France

Available to stream on: Hulu

Wine Country

Truly one of the funnier movies I have seen in a while. The cast is absolutely killer, and you will probably laugh until you cry. Pair this movie with a big glass of wine and you can pretend you're there with the girl gang!

Where it will take you: Napa Valley, CA

Available to stream on: Netflix

Up

Ah, another classic. This fantastical film will take you to a fictional place, sure, but it truly does inspire the desire to travel. Watching the unlikely duo of Carl and Russell on their adventure will surely warm your heart and leave a smile on your face.

Where it will take you: Paradise Falls (based off of Venezuela)

Available to stream on: Disney+

National Lampoon's Vacation

Who can't relate to this movie? A true road-trip classic, this movie does not get old. If you haven't seen it... what are you doing? Watch this movie right now! If you have, watch it again, it's still just as funny.

Where it will take you: Across the U.S.!

Available to stream on: Hulu

Murder Mystery

This movie is so bad it's good. Maybe that's just because I love anything with Adam Sandler, but can you blame me? If you're looking for something suspenseful, yet funny, this is the movie for you.

Where it will take you: Italy (Milan & Lake Como)

Available to stream on: Netflix

Romance

Up in the Air

George. Clooney. Do we need to say anything else? This movie was filmed in St. Louis, Omaha, Las Vegas, and Miami, Florida. Up in the Air is a must-watch for any frequent flyers!

Where it will take you: All over!

Available to stream on: Hulu

Under the Tuscan Sun

A good old-fashioned early 2000's rom-com. This movie is about a recent divorced writer who takes a trip to Italy and on a whim and then buys a villa. I mean... who hasn't dreamed about running away to the Italian countryside?

Where it will take you: Tuscany, Italy

Available to stream on: Hulu

About Time

Any rom-com with Rachel McAdams is a win in my book. Throw in some time travel and British accents, you've got yourself About Time.

Where it will take you: London, England

Available to stream on: Netflix

Under the Eiffel Tower

Another classic "mid-life crisis running away to Europe" movie, but the twist on this one is: it's a man doing the running away. There's a lot of wine involved and an array of European accents.

Where it will take you: The French Countryside

Available to stream on: Netflix

Leap Year

Don't expect an Oscar-worthy performance out of this one, but it's entertaining nonetheless. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the Irish countryside and Irish accents, but I found this movie so charming and it left me dreaming of a visit.

Where it will take you: Ireland

Available to stream on: Hulu

Drama

Into the Wild

The true story of a man who tries to escape modern society to live off of the land in rural Alaska. This heart-wrenching film will leave you in awe of the Alaskan wilderness, and also with a respect of nature.

Where it will take you: Alaska

City of God

City of God is a Brazilian film about the organized crime that goes on in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro. This movie gives you a realistic look inside of the favelas of Rio, and follows the story of two kids who were born into poverty and the different paths that they take.

Y Tu Mamá También

This movie tells the story of two teenage boys who embark on a road trip across Mexico with an older woman. Along the way, the two boys discover true connection with one another, as well as the world around them.

Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark

Something about this movie really brings me back to my childhood. Watch as Dr. Henry Walton "Indiana" Jones, a professor of archaeology, races against Nazis to recover artifacts from the Old Testament.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

I couldn't include just one Indiana Jones movie. In this installment, Indiana Jones must rescue his father who has gone missing while searching for the Holy Grail. Filming locations included Spain, Italy, Germany, Jordan, the U.K., and the U.S.
